Getting in an auto accident can really ruin your day, but that doesn’t mean that you should let it ruin your next few months. Immediately after any accident, there are several things that you can do once you are sure that you and everyone else involved in the crash are okay that will make sure that you will be able to collect the auto accident compensation that is owed to you with minimal aggravation.
Once you are sure that everyone is safe, out of danger, and the cars are moved off the road, try to take some pictures of the accident scene if you can. If you don’t have your camera, most cell phones today have a camera that is more than adequate to depict the accident scene and be used as evidence. If your camera is good enough and you can get close enough also try to take pictures of the other person license plate as well. Make sure the police get called and exchange information with the other party involved in the accident. Also call your insurance company and tell them that you’ve been in a crash. Some insurance companies will have agents that will go out to the accident scene to help you out in the event of an accident.
Make sure that you keep copies of any and all paperwork associated with the crash, especially the police report that you get after the accident. Finally, write down all the other details about the crash that you can remember and if you’ve been injured, or suspect that you may have been injured in any way, visit the doctor’s office as soon as possible.
By keeping all your paperwork together and visiting the hospital right away after an accident, you will be able to present a much stronger case to the insurance company and get the right amount of money with a minimal amount of effort in a settlement.
