Types of Dirt Bikes

Dirt bikes have become increasingly popular today. A dirt bike is light weight, can be easily stored and can be used even in your own backyard. Dirt biking therefore is attracting fans of all ages. There are different kinds of dirt bikes that you can choose from depending on your level.

Pocketbike or Minimoto: as the name suggests is less than 50 cm in height and 1 meter in length. The engine size varies between 39cc to 50cc and can go to speeds between 30 to 90km/h. Most mini bikes have two stroke engines but latest models have four stroke engines as well.

Pit Bikes: were originally made from spare parts and became popular in the pit racing circuit because of their small size and easy handling. They look like motocross motorcycles only smaller. They are also known as Kids Dirt Bikes as they are becoming very popular with children. Their light weight makes them ideal for children to handle.

Mini choppers are miniature versions of the standard chopper. They are popular among children.

Midi motos: are bigger than the miniature bikes but smaller than regular bikes. The seats on the midi motos are about 2 feet higher than mini motos’ seat. The engine size varies between 47cc to 110cc with speeds varying accordingly between 48kmh to 113 kmh. Most midi bikes are made in China and usually outfitted with a Honda engine or replication of a Honda style engine.

Quad bikes are miniature versions of the regular quad bikes which off road motorcycles.

The higher the engine size the faster and more powerful the bike. The higher engine dirt bikes namely the 250cc dirt bikes to 500 cc bikes are used for rougher terrain and in professional races. These dirt bikes have specialized fixtures which make them ideal for difficult trains and racing thus making them more expensive. A dirt bike is like a car but it offers you more adrenalin filled excitement as you can make your own trail in any environment.
