When Car Brake the Steering Wheel is Not Stable

There are several problems involving steering wheel can be encountered with your car and the most common is when the steering wheel shakes when braking. Usually having this kind of problem can easily determine what the cause of the problem is. Since the steering wheel problem happens when braking then we can safely say that the problem involve brakes, in this case the front brake has a problem.

You see, steering wheel is connected on the front end which also happens to be connected on the front brake, with this kind of set up therefore anything that happens to the front brake that is not normal can affect the steering wheel. Usually this problem will likely to occur when the brake pads and the brake disc is misaligned with each other resulting in uneven contact with each other when the brake is applied. When pads and disc is misaligned it will creates vibration during braking, the vibration will then be transferred to the steering column into the steering wheel causing it to shake. There are other reason that causes this kind of problem but is rarely to happen like when the front wheel bearing becomes loose or worn, it can cause misalignment of the pads and disc.

When you encounter this problem, bring the car to a shop for checking. Tell the mechanic to check the front brakes for misalignment. Depending on severity of damage probably the disc is necessary to machine to even out the surface. Then once the disc is machined it is also necessary to replace the pads with a new one since the old one cannot be used because it will not match with the newly machined disc which may also results to uneven contact between the two parts. However this can problem can avoided from happening if you follow the recommended car maintenance schedule of your dealer.
